ARTCAST weekly Monday thru Friday.
If you haven't been following JeffLafferty you might not know I've joined his mourning shows over on YouTube. We chat with fellow artists about making art, selling art and everything in-between, all while creating our own art.
On the very first episode Jeff quit his day job and worked at making a living creating his own work and paintings full time. (Though he's been an artist for some time, like most of us not always making a full income.) He did the first 100 or so Artcasts solo talking about all the different ways he promoted his work online, different sites he used and what has and hasn't worked for him.
Jeff first had a fellow artist/ sculpture join him as co-host by the name of Mike Fleming jr. Together they did 5 streams/ shows a week Live in much the same format. after awhile Jeff opened it up even more and included others. Guests like Jay Ferguson, Scott Serkland, Marshall Couture, Will

5 Comic Book Truths (that I don't think are true)
There are lots of tips, chestnuts, and other pieces of advice that I've heard over the years--tidbits of wisdom passed on from one generation to the next, from professional to professor to prospective student.  Some of them are drawing tips, some of them are tricks to dealing with publishers, and some are general guidelines on how to survive in comics. Most of them are useful and true and will stand the test of time, but a few of them  have become hackneyed platitudes and have gone unquestioned for too long. Here are 5 that I'm questioning...
1. READERS WILL ONLY LOOK AT A PANEL FOR 5 SECONDS, SO DON'T SWEAT IT TOO MUCH.
I understand the intention of this bit of wisdom, and I mostly agree with it: drawing great interiors is important, but at the same time, you don't want to get bogged down with small details that most readers won't even notice.
But here's my concern with this: if you treat every panel like it's disposable, then you're less likely to make an impact with reader

So... Watermarks?
First off, I seriously like the community feeling here at deviantArt. People have been super encouraging, positive, and quick to be as helpful as possible. Really, I have no complaints. It's just... the watermarks. I can't help it. They annoy me. I understand the need to protect what is rightfully the property of an artist. I can totally see why a professional, who makes a living selling their work, might try to prevent others from stealing it. Really, I need to start at least signing my pieces, and maybe even try tagging them with my name and website. But in my mind the place for that is in an unobtrusive corner, out of the way, so that the intent of the art isn't lost. I mean, do I want people to see my work, or my watermark? What am I, Getty Images? I mean, how likely is someone out there going to snag my sketch of a t-rex with a chainsaw and make a million dollars with it? The whole reason I post here is so that people can see my work, give me some feedback, and maybe get a little

Interests
Hi, guys!  I re-formatted five sequential pages to the 3x4, Euro Album dimensions I want to work in (also cleaned up some lines and dialog balloons) and re-posted them, for your approval.

Also, I'm excited to announce that I've created a Picarto channel here, and plan to start casting a couple of times a week...basically just chatting with anyone who wants to watch while I work on my comic, and keeping up my motivation and energy in the process!

If Picarto isn't your thing, I'll also be posting videos of the artcasts (as well as live, native Google Hangouts) on my YouTube channel, here.
  • Listening to: Black Sabbath - Mob Rules
  • Reading: Spider-Gwen #1 and Multiversity
  • Drinking: "Big Easy Bold" K-cups
